Committed to Serving Philadelphia Pilots

Perhaps the first thing I should mention about myself is that I was away from American Airlines from January 2003 until May 2021. After being furloughed from TWA in 2003, I found work as a staff member in the Air Transportation Division (AFS-200) at FAA headquarters in Washington. My work there primarily revolved around producing and amending regulations and national policy on training and qualification of air carrier pilots.

From that position I was also able to work on important reforms at the FAA's Office of Aerospace Medicine, the staff office responsible for issuing the federal licenses called medical certificates. Upon the successful completion of my project, which was supported by APA, I returned to American Airlines in 2021 after an eighteen-year furlough.

In one sense, I've worked for this company since 1997, and I bring that long view to the table, informed in part by my service on the TWA MEC and, after my return, on the APA Aeromedical Committee. But in another sense, I've only been here for a little over four years, and I see many things with the fresh view of an outsider or new hire.

I'm running for PHL Vice Chair because I believe I can use my background, training, and experience to improve the working lives of my PHL union brothers and sisters. I'm firmly committed to obtaining improvements in our next contract, negotiations for which may begin as soon as next year. I'm committed to fiscal responsibility at APA - as an Aeromedical Committee deputy chair, I submitted a budget proposal that reflected a 10% decrease in year-over-year subcommittee spending. I'm committed to protecting pilots from the vagaries of the FAA's medical certification process, and to doing what I can to ensure you know your rights. (My background as a regulator in the FAA's Flight Standards Service comes in handy here). And I'm committed to improving PHL airport parking for all Philly-based pilots who use it. I think the current arrangement leaves a lot to be desired, and I have a plan to make it better.

Regarding my personal conduct as an APA volunteer from 2021-2023, I didn't float vacation when I was asked not to do so. And, during the entire time contract negotiations were ongoing, I didn't pick up flying (premium or otherwise), and I didn't drop or trade trips. I'll provide my HI1s to anyone upon request. I've never submitted an expense report to APA.

Questions or comments? Ask me anything. My contact information is listed here, and I will respond to all inquiries as quickly as I can.
